It is probably the first French feature film to depict female homosexuals. Olivia "(also known as" The Pit of Solitude ") is a 1951 French film directed by Jacqueline Audley. It is adapted from Dorothy Busey's semi autobiographical novel of 1950. It is known as a milestone represented by lesbians;. Olivia came to a finishing school and fell in love with principal Julie. Miss Julie felt the same way, but she tried to suppress her desires. Edwinge Feuill è re was nominated for Best Foreign Actress at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in 1952 for her role as Miss Julie. French director Audrey produced 18 feature films from 1944 to 1972. Her earliest films were a model of French "quality tradition" and she enjoyed adapting plots from French literature. The biggest difference between Audry and her peers is that her films mainly focus on female protagonists, while traditional French films focus on male life. Her most notorious film was "Olivia" in 1951, which tells the story of lesbian relationships.
